  • Need help generating a math fair project idea? In previous years, VCTM has recently collaborated on and compiled an extensive list of possible project topics, equipped with essential questions and potential directions. Note that this list is not exhaustive and should be used as a starting point for students and the educators that support them. We encourage students to chart their own path and explore mathematical concepts, applications, and paradoxes that they find personally interesting and relevant.

  • Teachers! The VCTM Math Fair Committee is pleased to offer, for the first-time ever, a proficiency scale & alignment template for our project scoring criteria. We recommend that you use this document in a backwards-design fashion as you help your students prepare their projects, keeping in mind the final objectives: the judges expectations for a “proficient” project. Use the space provided for PBGR alignment as needed to align your student project(s)  to your local school/district content or transferable skills graduation requirements. You might also consider alignment to state or national standards (CCSS, NCTM).
  • As in years past, on the day of the event students should arrive at 8:30 am and proceed to registration on the second floor.  All projects should be set up and ready for judging at 9:00 am sharp.
