National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) Eligible Grants

Teacher-Leader Professional Learning Grant (Pre-K-12)

This grant provides professional learning assistance to a school or district for mathematics teachers and mathematics teacher-leaders during the 2024-2025 school year. Maximum of $4000 for professional learning which is focused on one of NCSM’s signature initiatives, Equity & Access Leadership Learning Communication Exchange. To be completed during the 2025-2026 school year, deadline is: November 1, 2024

Advanced Mathematics Education Course Work Scholarship for Grades 9–12 Teachers

This grant provides financial professional learning support to improve competence in the teaching of mathematics by completing advanced coursework in mathematics education. Maximum of $3000 for an individual teacher teaching in grades 9-12.

Connecting Mathematics to Other Subject Areas Grant (9-12)

By: Theoni Pappas Fund

This grant supports the development and implementation of high school lessons and/or materials that engage students in mathematical modeling and making interdisciplinary curricular connections.  Maximum of $4000 for individuals or groups of teachers teaching grades (9-12).

Designing Innovative Lessons and Activities for Mathematics Teaching (K–8)

By: Mary P. Dolciani Halloran Foundation and NCTM 

This grant encourages teams of mathematics educators to engage in the process of writing and editing materials for mathematics teachers.  Maximum of $5000 a year up to 3 years for a leadership team of mathematics educators.

Designing Lessons that Develop Conceptual Understanding Grant (PK-5)

This grant supports elementary teachers in designing, implementing, and sharing engaging hands-on lessons to support students’ conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts. This grant is particularly intended to support teachers of students who are underrepresented in STEM to create lessons that draw on students’ linguistic and cultural assets. This grant could be used to fund materials, such as manipulatives, mathematics-related children’s literature, etc. The expectation is that the recipient of the grant would share their lessons with other teachers, in their school/district, and beyond.  

Early Career Research Grant

Support of research in mathematics education conducted by early career mathematics educators and doctoral candidates in mathematics education.  A maximum of $10,000 for and individual teacher that is an early career mathematics educators and doctoral candidates in mathematics education

Emerging Teacher-Leaders in Elementary School Mathematics Grant

By: NCTM

This grant aims to increase the breadth and depth of the mathematics content knowledge of an elementary school teacher who has demonstrated a commitment to mathematics teaching and learning.  Maximum of $6000 to an individual elementary school teacher or coach with at least 3 years of experience.

Equity in Mathematics Grant (PK-6)

This grant supports the incorporation of classroom materials or lessons that will improve the achievement of student groups that have previous records of underachievement, sometimes identified by race, gender, ethnicity, region, or culture.  Maximum of $8000 for an individual PK-6 teacher.

Improving Students' Understanding of Geometry Grant

This grant supports the development of activities that will enable students to better appreciate, understand, and apply some aspect of geometry that is consistent with adopted standards and connects to a context outside of mathematics.  Maximum of $4000 for an individual educator in grades PK-8.

Mathematics Graduate Course Work Scholarship for Grades PK-5 Teachers

This grant provides financial support for improving teachers' understanding of mathematics by completing graduate coursework in mathematics or mathematics education.  Maximum of $3200 for an educator in grades PK-5.

Partnership for Transition to College Readiness Grant

This grant supports partnerships between high schools and local higher education entities and to support innovation in 12th grade preparation promoting successful transition to college mathematics.  Maximum of $8000 for a high school/higher education team over a two-year to a High school and higher education faculty partners in support of 12th grade students.

Action Research on Mathematics Teaching Practices Grant

By: Ernest Duncan Fund and NCTM 

The purpose of this grant is to provide financial support for action research conducted as a collaborative by university/college faculty, classroom teacher(s), and preservice teacher(s) seeking to improve the teaching of mathematics in PK-12 classroom(s).  Maximum of $6000 for a teacher in the PK-12 classroom, a mathematics coach assigned to work with the classroom(s) where the research will be conducted, or a university/college mathematics educator.

Enhancing Student Mathematics Learning Through the Use of Tools and Technology Grant (PK-12)

By: Isabelle P. Rucker Fund, Veryl Schult-Ellen Hocking Fund, and NCTM 

The purpose of this grant is to encourage the innovative use of technology and other tools to help teachers and students visualize and concretize mathematics abstractions.  Maximum of $3000 for an educator or math coach teaching at least 50% of the day

Future Leader Initial NCTM Annual Meeting Attendance Award

By: Edwin I. Stein Fund and NCTM 

The purpose of this grant is to provide financial assistance to a first-time attendee at an NCTM Annual Meeting and Exposition.  Annual Meeting Registration + Maximum of $1,500 for travel and subsistence Expenses for a full time classroom teacher.

Grades 7-12 Preservice Teacher Coursework Scholarship

Professional Development Scholarship Emphasizing History, Number Theory, or Discrete Mathematics

To provide financial support for: 

  • completing credited course work, or designing and implementing a personal study plan in one of the following areas: some aspect of the history of mathematics, number theory, or discrete mathematics

  • creating and field-testing appropriate classroom activities and
